RED OAK PRESBYTERIAN CEMETERY

REMARKS:

My great great grandfather, MOSES BERRY, is buried in an unmarked grave at the Red Oak Presbyterian Cemetery in Brown County, Ohio.

In fact that area is very interesting. Red Oak Presbyterian was founded in the mid- to late 1700s and had an integrated congregation of escaped/freed slaves and whites till the mid-1800s when blacks moved to Ripley and founded their own churches.

Here are the stats on my ancestor, MOSES BERRY, a former USCT soldier who is buried in Red Oak Cemetery near Ripley, Ohio.

Moses Berry joined the Union Army in Maysville, KY., as a private and was enrolled in Company E of the 121st U.S. Colored Infantry April 30, 1865. Upon the discontinuation of that command in June, 1865, he was transferred to the 13 U.S. Colored Heavy Artillery.

He was mustered out in Louisville, KY, at Camp Nelson, on Nov. 18, 1865, and paid $66.46.

He was honorably discharged after falling ill with pneumonia.
