Richard Brooks was born in Hopkins County
Kentucky. His served with the 6th U. S. Colored Cavalry Regiment at Camp Nelson, Kentucky. He and Amanda Arnet Brooks had lived as man and wife under "old slave law" from 1858 until they
were legally married by the Declaration of Febuary 14, 1866, one-hundred and thirty-three years ago yesterday! Richard Brooks died in Henderson, Kentucky in 1905. Amanda recieved a widows pension and this is how I obtained my information from the National Archives.
